New shoes!

Poor Jenya was running a slight fever all day today, but you wouldn’t even know by being with her. She was so happy to see us and to play during two visits today! Once again, Rick got to feed two of the younger babies this morning. The caregivers just love him and how much he helps them out. One of them celebrated a birthday today and we were invited for tea and snacks, which was really nice.

After our first visit we went shopping with our translator, Natasha, for baby items that we need to pack in a bag to send with them to meet us in Almaty next month. We bought Jenya her first pair of shoes! She was so funny when we first put them on. She just wanted to play with them, but then when she realized she could walk around better, she didn’t want to stop. And she stomped on everything in her way (see picture above). We still have to hold her hands while she’s walking, but it shouldn’t be long before she’s doing it on her own. I just hope we don’t miss it while we’re apart.

We’re glad that you all enjoyed the family photos - thank you for the nice comments! There is a new requirement that we must have a photo of the three of us together for each day of bonding to prove to the judge that we actually saw Jenya every day. So we actually have about 14 of them so far! I’ve been keeping them on a separate disk so that we can print them out easier and just yesterday downloaded them to our computer. It will be nice to have them in an album for Jenya to show her our first month together as a family. And yes, Catherine is taking them and we do the same for her. She tries to get Jenya to look up at her as much as possible, and has taken some priceless photos for us!

  1. Those shoes are so adorable. I love them. In the second picture it looks like she saying what are these things on my feet? I don't recognize them.Or better yet, "look everyone how cute I look in my new shoes, thanks mommy and daddy for these cool shoes".

I hope she's okay. Why does she have a fever? did she get over her cold yet? Does a dr. see her? Ask for a doctor if she doesn't get better soon.

  3. She is beautiful, what size shoes is she wearing? I have been shopping and ive seen soo many cute shoes, i dont know which size to buy!!
Yesterday, I was at Jess and Brian's house and they asked me about Jenya and I showed them some pictures from your blog. She started crying which made me start. Brian says you have nothing to worry about when it comes to Rick in front of the judge, he will get the job done! I am counting down the days until I see you again. The house is still in tact, the cats and dogs are still all healthy, but zeus definitely misses his best friend. I always seem to miss you when you are online so hopefully I catch you soon! If not, I will see you in less than two weeks!

P.S. since Jenya is older than the other babies, doesn't she understand Russian already? Does she understand some of the things you are saying in English?

  6. The shoes are just too cute. I can just picture her stomping around checking out how they work. She will be so ready when it is time to get tap shoes for the girls!

I am not at all surprised that Rick is becoming a working member of the baby house. That is so Rick. I can just picture him cracking up the ladies and the kids loving him. Be careful, they might not want to let him go.

  8. Well, she wears a size 20 shoe, whatever that really means! I'll have to figure it out when we get back to NY.

Kels, she definitely loves to hear Russian spoken because she whips her head around when she hears it. But I'm starting to wonder if it's because of the tone. It comes across as being very gruff and loud sometimes. But she's young enough to be able to pick up English easily.

  9. I love the second one! She's so funny trying to walk and look at her feet at the same time. My guess is that she probably wears a size 3 Kelsey. She looks pretty even with Robbie in size, maybe a litte smaller and he's usually a 3. I was wondering the same thing, but since we don't have an infant size 20 here we'll have to do our best to guess!
I'm so glad I got to "talk" to you earlier Kristen! See you soon!
